Franke recently joined Melett North America at the start of the year, bringing with him close to an impressive 40 years of experience in the turbocharger market. He will provide technical support to customers, as well as a wealth of knowledge on the design and implementation of turbocharger production, and training on the use of high-speed core balancing and other equipment.

Perez also joined with an extensive career in the turbocharger market, and assists the team in customer service, technical support, sales, marketing activities, market research, and customer interaction.

At HDAW, the team presented on “Early and Repeat Turbo Failure Prevention”, providing visitors with a unique insight into the importance of a quality turbo repair, a route often more cost effective than replacement, and one that promotes environmentally friendly remanufacturing.

Visitors to the show were able to experience first-hand Melett’s, high quality components, which are engineered in the UK and designed to match the OEM specification,

Thanks to Melett’s in-house product development programme, the company has continually been able to increase its range and availability of products to ensure customers have access to stock in the quickest time possible.

Franke said: “The event was 46% bigger and better than last year, which was clear while at the show. Combining the attendance of both events not only increases participation, but it opens attendees to new markets and opportunities. This gave us a chance to meet with companies who had previously not entered the turbocharger market and showcase our renowned product offering.”

The company offers an extensive range of assembled and VSR balanced CHRA (core assemblies), eliminating the need for repairers to invest in expensive high-speed balancing equipment.

Each core assembly is quality checked and inspected against the original equipment specifications to ensure OE performance is maintained during operation.

Franke added:“There is a very strong focus on customer care at Melett and the team are great to work alongside. Working with customers to develop what is needed in a timely manner, at fair market pricing, at an O.E. level of quality is key and is something that we were able to communicate effectively at the show.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to support the practice of repairing and rebuilding existing products. Keeping existing equipment and vehicles running properly saves money for our customers, but it’s also a sustainable practice.”

As part of its ongoing investment plans, customers can place orders and check stock availability via its website www.melett.com The site also provides extensive product information, technical guides & videos, turbo tips and industry news.

Melett continues to charge forward as it celebrates 10-year anniversary

Melett North America Inc. is celebrating a key milestone, marking its 10-year anniversary by reflecting on the success of the last decade.

The business has experienced significant growth since it was first established in Memphis, Tennessee in 2012, with double-digit sales growth on a yearly basis.

Initially beginning its venture from a 7500 sq ft building, the team has since doubled its capacity in both the number of employees and the size of its facility, moving to a significantly larger premises in 2018 – as a direct result of year-on-year progression and the need to meet ongoing demand.

Our in-house product development programme has enabled the company to continually increase its range and availability of products to ensure customers have access to stock in the quickest time possible.

Entering the market with 1,800 parts numbers, we now have a product portfolio of more than 6,000 parts, available for next day delivery to our growing customer base of aftermarket specialists throughout North America and Canada.

In our 10th year, Melett continues to lead the way in the turbocharger aftermarket, thanks to the offering of high-quality components – which are designed and engineered in the UK to match the OEM specification – backed up by its world-class customer service.

Kenny Taylor, Melett North America General Manager, said: “It’s been a highly successful 10 years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed building strong relationships throughout the industry, whilst showcasing and delivering Melett’s high-quality, specialist offering to the North American and Canadian markets.

“Melett North America has firmly established itself as the trusted aftermarket brand for precision engineered turbochargers and parts over the past decade. It is renowned for producing OEM quality products that help turbo specialists produce the highest quality repairs.”

Our company offers an extensive range of assembled and VSR balanced CHRA (core assemblies), which eliminates the need for repairers to invest in expensive high-speed balancing equipment.

Each core assembly is quality checked and inspected against the original equipment specifications to ensure OEM performance is maintained during operation.

In addition to core assemblies, we also offer a variety of fast-moving repair kits and, for instances where a repair is not possible, a range of new turbo units.

Taylor added: “We’ve seen the market continue to develop in recent years, and this trend isn’t going to fade away any time soon. There is an enormous sales potential in turbo repairs, as the number of turbocharged passenger cars continues to grow rapidly, and we will continue to spread the message of repair over replacement.

“Melett has a reputation for being the leader in the supply of the highest quality turbochargers and parts, backed up by our high level of technical and customer support. Our customers know they can rely on us as a quality supplier.”

Nickel price volatility could damage turbocharger quality

Turbocharger specialist, Melett is warning the UK automotive industry to maintain quality as soaring raw material prices are seeing the cost of components rise.

The office for national statistics said that half of UK businesses reported a rise in the cost of materials, goods or services in March and with authorities, such as the DVSA, carrying out market surveillance on braking and emissions products in the past year, Melett is urging the sector to invest and continue down the path of high quality.

Nickel is the main element of the Inconel material used in the manufacture of turbocharger turbine wheels, as it can withstand the tough operating conditions and extreme temperatures of a modern turbocharger.

As shown in the below graph, during the month of March the cost of nickel increased by 100 percent overnight – from $24k / tonne to $48k / tonne – which caused the LME (London Metal Exchange) to halt trading of this commodity.

Following this historical record high, and although at the end of April the price had fallen back to $32k / tonne, this still represents an increase of 60 percent since the start of the year, where the price in January was $20k / tonne.

The biggest supplier of nickel is Russia and with the current conflict with Ukraine, coupled with the volatility in the raw materials market, as well as rising costs of labour, energy and transportation, prices of automotive components are increasing globally.

Andrew Frodsham, Melett Group Supply Chain Director, says: “Our investment over the years means we are able to operate a lean and effective supply chain, and in recent months we have increased and

enhanced our availability and manufacturing capabilities. With a dedicated team, we are best placed to work with customers as we navigate through the volatility within the market.”

Melett’s “What’s in Your Turbo?” initiative encourages the market to question part quality even more and look beyond price and appearance. The company says it is very risky to assume that parts are identical, even if they look the same.

It is important that the correct material grade is used in the manufacture of turbocharger parts. Premature turbocharger failure is a common problem associated with the use of lower quality repair parts, which can be as a result of using lower grade raw materials.

Melett understands the importance of using the correct materials and is committed to supporting the turbocharger repair market with the highest quality parts and service.
